Great story, bad editing

Years ago as a teen I started reading the Dr Syn books and thoroughly enjoyed them. At the time I was only able to find two of the books in the series and after many attempts over the years all I came across in searches was that they were no longer in print. When I found that Amazon had all of the books (except one which I found a .pdf version of online elsewhere)I was thrilled. However in reading the digital versions I found that whoever did the editing/conversion for the Kindle editions apparently had never heard of spell check or proof reading. I appreciate that the books were quite inexpensive in price but I was appalled by the poor quality. It would have been far better to pay more each book and have a quality produced item. The title of this review says it all "Great story, bad editing".

My wife and I recently re-watched the old Disney TV film "Scarecrow of Romney Marsh" starring Patrick McGoohan. I thought I'd look into the original books, and picked this one because it was the first chronologically (although it was written late in the series). I will not be reading any of the others. These stick-figure characters go through predictable plot events full of unbelievable coincidences. A trained pastor curses God because his wife leaves him for a more exciting man, then he becomes a pirate, learns several languages, goes to America, meets Indians, then becomes a pirate again to seek his revenge? And of course, at the end, he returns to Romney Marsh so the rest of the books can proceed as already written. I've read Bulldog Drummond, John Buchan, and other purveyors of British adventure lit, but this weak offering pales in comparison.

Interesting story,the Indian,the pirates,the winch and the Englishman.Anyone should makes an adventure of this but Russell Thorndike does it with class.Most enjoyable reading.I recommend this book heartily.
