Afghan Heat is a fast paced story of an SAS operative on operations from SAS selection through to a tour on the battlefields of Afghanistan. The book follows individual operations where special forces, aircraft, and the latest surveillance technology are fused together - in order to capture key figures or simply take out an enemy stronghold.
The books account is both gritty and graphical as it follows the SAS, battling at times against overwhelming odds in a hostile country. Fighting a war hardened enemy with years of experience fighting occupying forces. Even these elite soldiers with advanced weaponry and immense fire support at their disposal are put to the ultimate test of skill and courage fighting in the 'Stan.'

"This was a very entertaining book to read. Working over here in Afghanistan as a lazy civilian I do bump into these guys from time to time and one can't help but wonder a bit about what their story is as the guys are pretty confusing in real life."
"A great book for many reasons. I liked that the writer was not a chest beater ego driven guy with an agenda about social or political or whatever that he would constantly muddy the story with."
"I liked the matter of fact description of the frequent action. I like the post military tansition, which I know can be hard for anyone."
"The author has done a marvelous job of giving us an exciting, yet not over-the-top macho BS, picture of what the SAS does when they're out and about in the country-side."
"If you're looking to get a glimpse behind the scenes into the stories you read about in the news (and those that you don't!), definitely grab this book."

An exciting set of stories about our royal cousins from across the Pond - I liked it!
By Peter Miller
This was a very entertaining book to read, I thoroughly enjoyed it. While I'm sure as it grows in popularity that some folks will knock it for having some spelling errors or not sounding as flowery or downright romantic as, say Tom Clancy, this guy clearly can dot his i's with 5.56 and cross his t's with a bayonet should he care to do so. You can't hold his literary style against him though. We all know that the Brits speak about 31 flavors of an archaic and less-evolved (some might say barbaric) version of English :) In spite of that unfortunate handicap the author has done a marvelous job of giving us an exciting, yet not over-the-top macho BS, picture of what the SAS does when they're out and about in the country-side.
The only real drawback that I found with the book is that I wish it were longer. Not that you're getting shortchanged at all, but you can kind of tell that the author has more to say but doesn't. It's liking when you're a kid talking to your grandpa, you're like "Tell me the story about...." and he's all "Oooh you don't wanna hear about that." The feeling is kinda like "STFU and tell the story, and don't leave anything out!"
Maybe a sequel, or an addendum?
Working over here in Afghanistan as a lazy civilian I do bump into these guys from time to time and one can't help but wonder a bit about what their story is as the guys are pretty confusing in real life. I remember walking into the ops building on the flight-line of a dusty little airbase out in the Helmand somewhere and seeing a bunch of these guys piled up lemur-style under the A/C as they tried to sleep the day away while obviously waiting for something to happen, their choppers were parked out on the ramp. I only knew they were Brits after I opened the door and was greeted with a chorus of almost unintelligible babbling about bloody this, bloody that, flies, cue jumping, and a few grunts. It turns out they wanted the door shut.
Like the author says in the book, you probably won't ever get these guys to start telling you these stories. This book is probably the closest thing to getting the chance to sit down next to one of them and hearing about their experiences. If you're looking for Rogue Warrior garbage, you won't find it here. But if you're looking to get a glimpse behind the scenes into the stories you read about in the news (and those that you don't!), definitely grab this book.

Nonstop action
By Nicole Leon
I found this book to be an exciting nonstop book full of action and it was hard for me to put the book down. Usually don’t read war-based type of books but this one caught my attention quickly and kept me into the story until it ended. This novel shared the rough interactions the special military forces handled on a regular basis. The book discusses the first person account into the mission at hand and further intense details into the path the story takes. I don’t want to give it away but this book was informative and action-packed book.

Excellent!

A simple book of one soldier's story. It's simplicity is refreshing and is well worth reading. Easy to read but very compelling in its message.
