Great Story

I really appreciate author's creativity and inventiveness when it comes to storytelling. Tracey Jane Jackson paints a great imaginary world, right here in the world we live in, full of Nordic gods, eternally bound romance between man and woman, total fidelity (most of the time), a respect for Christianity, and things of which a girls dreams are made. In the Cauld Ane world, a man knows his 'mate' as soon as he is close to her, and he is mentally, emotionally, physically bound to her forever more. How romantic is that, that this gigantic, handsome, commanding man swears to love you forever and almost is incapable of loving or being intimate with anyone else. Romantic, right? I think so :)
Such a absolute connection lends to hard storytelling, though, because then what is keeping the hero and heroine apart throughout the book? It is a tough challenge to meet - to keep enough conflict throughout the story to make it interesting when (as a romance) this relationship between hero and heroine is the main reason why people read. There were some inconsistencies, ie. the heroine trusts him one second, then the very next moment she doesn't. Or she reasons to herself that her friend is good at character reading, and her friend believes implicitly in these people, so she will believe in them, and then the next moment she feels like she can't believe in them, etc. The heroine feels this mental connection with the hero (who is of course an AMAZING man) but then discounts it the very next second. If I had such a connection with a man who swore he would love me til the day he died and that he was almost literally unable to be unfaithful to me... and my best friend in the whole wide world trusts him and his family... and everything in me says to trust him... I can't think of any reason NOT to. But the story needed conflict at times, the story needed her to not trust him, so, to coincide with the need of the story, she did not trust him. Does that make sense?
With that being said, though, Tracey Jane Jackson pulls off another near impossibility in the romance world - she has the hero and heroine marry super close to the beginning of the book and they remain close and together for the remainder of the story. Are you kidding me? Most of the time, in my experience, marriage in a novel = disaster. But Jackson did not fall into this trap. The author gets enough side conflict to prevent the conflict from having to come from the main characters.
Something that I mentioned in my review for the first book in this series, Bound By Blood, was that the mental connection that the hero and heroine share is SUPER romantic... I love the idea that they know each others thoughts, feelings, etc. *sigh!* But I think that such an amazing gift should be treated kind of reverently and it wasn't. It was treated somewhat casually, which in turn made me, as the reader, view it as casually (when it TOTALLY IS NOT CASUAL! IT'S FREEK'N AWESOME!:))
One more thing that the author does exceptionally well, is handle intimacy. Top notch credit to her for creating a super intimate relationship within marriage but make it a very safe and clean read. GREAT JOB WITH THAT.
Overall, this was a wonderful clean romance, written by a great author.

Interesting, but not as good as Book One Bound by Blood

I read book one and could not wait to start book two. I have to say I was a little disappointed in book two, but I loved book one so I would not discourage you from reading it. The book has lots of storylines and characters from the first book and helps to give closure to the first book. If you read the first book (and strongly suggest you do) you will find a lot of repeat in this book at the beginning, but the writing carried me through to the very last page. Both books are interesting and end with you wanting to read the next one. I just really wish the next one is about Brodie and Payton and has a little better beginning.

not your usual romance novel

This book was both similar to the first but at the same time went in a whole another direction. This was nice because some series keep reusing the same plot but in this one that did not happen. I also found it refreshing that it went back and filled in what you missed awhile you were "in" Scotland. I also CANT WAIT FOR THE THIRD BOOK ITS BOUND TO BE AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!
