Not a bad read, but had some issues

This book has me on the fence. I didn't love it, but I didn't hate it. It was interesting to have a main heroine that had serious issues. Leigh was a total coke-head, drug-using, heavy-drinking ho. I really didn't find much to like about her, which wasn't necessarily a bad thing. She was an interesting character, not the perfect, rich, gorgeous typical heroine. Griffin was also different, he had some serious issues from his past, which made him distant and cautious.
So the story was interesting, it had some decent action, but I just didn't feel any spark between the two characters. Leigh was a mess, and yeah, she did clean herself up, but she was a MESS. The instant connection between Griff and Leigh felt forced, an awkward romance. I feel like we had to be told how the characters felt, through stilted dialog and description.
Again, not a horrible read, I think there was potential, but it just fell flat for me.

Good but wanted more

I was first attracted to this book by the comparison of a cross between Beautiful Disaster and Nikita- two of my favourite things so I was intrigued. Unfortunately Slow Burn didn't live up to that description.
Leigh's life had been dramatically changed, she got mixed up in drugs and partying and after a car crash that killed her boyfriend and left her fatally injured, her dad intervened to save her life. She was given a serum by her father-developed by his company-that boosted healing ability and made the recipient almost indestructible. I felt the way we were told about the serum was quite blasé as if this was an everyday occurrence, I would have perhaps liked more detail.
Then Griffin was introduced into Leigh's life, he was sent to protect her following her father's death and learning that the company now wanted Leigh dead also. When Griffin first appeared I thought he was hot!! And the chemistry between them was electric but when they did get together down the line I actually thought some of that chemistry was lost and I wasn't as invested in them as I first was.
The story did contain many twists and turns and held some intrigue but for me I would have liked some of the plot points explored further and for the characters to have a little more depth. Especially the super serum element that was a unique point and I felt this could have been given more attention.
I really enjoyed the author's writing style, the story flowed well and I finished it in almost one sitting. I did like the characters Chambers created but just wanted more from them.
Overall it was a good read and I'm definitely intrigued as to where the story will go from here. ~Ava

This was terrible

I can almost always find something redeeming in a book. And no matter what will almost always read the next book when a sequel comes out even if I didn't love the book. More because I'm curious and can't help myself.
But seriously this was so bad. I really have no interest in read the sequel. The sci-fi concept was bad and poorly done., the heroine was gross and whiney, and the hero lacked any romance.
