This book tells of life before many of the things we take for granted today were available, e.g. refrigerators, television sets, clothes washers and dryers, bath tubs, enough to eat, and clothes that weren’t “hand-me-downs.” It was a time when playing baseball with buddies was time consuming and didn’t cost anything. One bat, one baseball, a few gloves and no parents to watch was all a bunch of youngsters needed to play for hours. Times were tough, but they were great!

A well written book about growing up in Central Falls, Rhode Island during the depession years.

A very sentimental read if you were from Central Falls, Rhode Island during the 40's and 50's. Reading this book took me on a great trip and it was like re-living my life up through high school. It was awesome picturing all of the people mentioned and the sports they were involved in. What a great time we had and we did not realize at the time how our parents were struggling to make ends meet. God Bless them. By the way Jake married a girl from my class of 1950 at Central Falls High School.
Thanks for the wonderful trip back Jake to some of the best times of my life come to think of it.
