Great recipes, no matter if you're a vegan or not

I am not a vegan, but have been toying with the idea of giving it a try.This is really a great little cookbook for vegans and non-vegans. It has a fully linked Table-of-Contents which is always helpful when your in the kitchen cooking. There are many recipes in all,some really great, and they have pictures.

There is a hyperlinked table of contents that works with the Go To menu in Kindle PC.

The author states these are recipes for "vegan breakfast in a hurry." When I'm in a hurry, I'm not going to be making pancakes or waffles, much less an orange sauce to top them with. There is a lot of cooking in this book of recipes for "when you don't have time to cook."

The author says: "This guide to vegan breakfast recipes will open your eyes to the flavorful and delicious recipes you can get out of vegan ingredients. Vegan means no meat and no dairy or eggs but these things can be replaced or left out of many of these recipes altogether."

There's a recipe for Vegan Eggs Benedict that calls for Hollandaise, but doesn't give any instructions on how to make this sauce (traditionally eggs and butter) with vegan ingredients.

The blueberry coconut smoothie calls for 4 ounces vanilla yogurt. These issues show a lack of attention to detail, especially when the book references vegan eating so heavily.

One recipe says "3 tablespoons tapioca flour (see Note)." I found no note.

As I began reading through, I began spotting typos. "and mash the bananas in a big boil." "Since this recipes call for frozen fruit," "start with mixing the years with the orange juice," "put he batter evenly." This bothers me because if this sort of problem was missed, what kind of problem might there be with quantities, amounts, or instructions?

Some recipes call for "dry oatmeal." Does this refer to slow-cooking rolled oats, steel-cut oats, or something else entirely?

Ingredient lists are double-spaced and frequently go to 2 pages, which is something I don't care for when cooking from a recipe.

One of the recipes is for Avocado Toast. This "recipe" is nothing more than half an avocado mashed "all over the toast" and "season the avocado to your liking."

Some of the recipes for pancakes have more complete and appropriate instructions than others.

Example 1: " Use an lightly greased pan to cook your pancake. Cook pancakes on low heat and flip pancakes only once while cooking."

Example 2: " Preheat a skillet or crepe pan. You can use Pam on the pan so it doesn't stick. Pour out pancake-sized batter on the pan and cook for about 3 minutes before turning the pancake over and cooking the other side for another minute or so."

Example 3: "Pour the batter onto lightly greased pan. Flip the pancakes only once. You will know they are ready to be flipped when the bubble and puff up. After flipping the pancakes once cook on the other side until the pancakes puff up and are cooked in the middle."

The Fruity Quinoa recipe says to make sure the quinoa is well-rinsed in multiple ways, in the introduction, the ingredient list, and the instructions. The Southwestern Burro (sic) recipe calls for quinoa but makes no reference to rinsing it.

All in all, I'm just not confident in this book. I just wouldn't use it. There are errors and inconsistencies sprinkled throughout, some more obvious than others.

Most vegan breakfast cookbooks I've encountered involve all recipes either involving tofu, or some sort of meat substitute in almost every recipe. I was very impressed that most of the recipes did not include tofu or a meat substitute. Some do, which I don't find unreasonable, but I was grateful to find such a wide variety of other breakfast ideas. I haven't tried any of the recipes yet, but have read through all of them and am fairly impressed with them.

This book, however, does need to be edited. There was one recipe for something that was supposed to be chocolate flavored and didn't include any cocoa, I think that this was a mistake. I also have to say that I wouldn't considered most of these recipes to be good for someone "in a hurry" as the book claims.

If you take those things in mind, I do believe that for $3, it is well worth the money.
