"The History of Rome", or "Ab Urbe Condita Libri" is a monumental history of Ancient Rome written in Latin around 27 BC by the historian Titus Livius, known in English as Livy.
This complete anthology of Livy contains all 35 volumes of Livy's work in one ebook, offering great value to readers, instead of splitting them into several different volumes to be sold separately.
"The History of Rome" covers the Roman Era from the story of Aeneas and the mythologized founding of Rome in 753BC, spans the early history of Rome and the vicious wars against the Carthaginian general Hannibal, and runs right up to Livy's own time in the reign of the Emperor Augustus. Only about 25% of the original massive work survives - but that which does provides an unparalleled insight into the Roman World.
This unexpurgated anthology has been compiled by www.Bybliotech.org and optimised for e-readers. It includes an active table of contents for ease of navigation, and features unique illustrations as frontispieces for the individual books in the anthology.

5 Stars For Titus Livius - 3 Stars For This Kindle Edition - Lacks Maps, Etc.
By L. Shirley
This review refers to: The Complete Livy: The History of Rome, "Ab Urbe Condita" (Illustrated) (Texts From Ancient Rome) [Kindle Edition].
I have on my book shelf an old and tattered(actually falling apart) copy of The War With Hannibal, which is Books XXI-XXX of Livy's (Titus Livius (59BC-AD17) History of Rome from its Foundation. I decided it was time for a new edition, one that I didn't have to hold together when I was reading it. While browsing the various editions - almost all are by volumes, as the complete history is very lengthy - I came across this complete ILLUSTRATED edition and thought for a few bucks I'd go for it. Expecting the "illustrations" to include maps and the like - I especially love maps that show where battles took place - I was very disappointed. The only illustrations I have come across are at the beginning of each book where there might be a sketch of a lion or elephant, etc. Also there is no credit given to person(s) that translated the books. My old edition was (mostly)translated by Aubrey De Selincourt, but the wording is a little different in this edition. No introduction or biographical info as to Livy, or anything other than a brief synopsis of the events to take place in each book.
As far as the text - that is very good. Well formatted, easy to read. The table of contents allows you to click on any book you want to go to. There are nice breaks between Livy's 'chapters'.
There are 27798 locations.
As for the writing of the history itself, it is like reading a great adventure novel. Very easy to read. Livy's descriptions are detailed and all encompassing. How much of it was actual fact is hard to say ;but he does sometimes note where he gleaned his information from, as well as back up his figures - i.e number of casualties in a battle, etc. I find the reading to be very captivating and informative. Included are books I - XXXV (complete), sectioned into: The Early History of Rome; Rome and Italy; The Lost(Fragmentary) Books; The War With Hannibal and Rome and the Mediterranean. Only about 25% of Livy's entire writings survived. How lucky we are to have at least that.
So, I'll be keeping this Kindle edition(the text is so nice and easy on the eyes); and because my old book is falling apart anyway, I'll keep the maps that have the old world names of the geographical areas ,the battle sites, and allowed me to follow Hannibal across the Alps etc. I suggest if you are also interested in maps, you may want to check around.
Thanks.....Laurie

Brilliant annthology at a bargain price
By Graham
I was very happy to purchase these volumes in one set. Most other editions I've seen split the books up into five volumes. Price-wise, I couldn't be happier with my purchase.
The translation has been done very well too. The prose reads smoothly, at times I felt I was reading an adventure story! The sections on the war with Hannibal were my favourite. I can picture this being the source material for a great movie one day.
This really is an amazing look at the Roman lifestyle, the way people lived back then and the way people acted. Compelling.
